Sailor Moon Crystal episode 1 after thoughts

I've said it before I don't call it review because I think whatever I'm saying isn't a review....

I will be calling Sailor Moon Crystal for the next few paragraphs and other episodes review as Crystal.

It's been 16 long years since the last time I watched Sailor Moon, or at least have a rough mental image of what I think it was. When I was young, I didn't discover the senshis by myself. According to my mother, she insists that the show is during her time when it was during mine. I remember singing along to moonlight densetsu, blabbering some mahou spells, and doing that moon crown boomerang thing. I think i also had a sailor moon fanbook because there was a page I really liked about sailor mecury and I also had tons of sailor moon posters. My collection started when my family will always head down to IMM every weekend, i think, to get stuff. My mental image is blurry but i think there was a section for Japanese related goods and it was pretty crowded.

16 years later, Crystal is out, a total reboot of the entire series and I wonder how far will this series last. I'm excited. Are you?

When I first watched the opening clip aired during AX2014 that was floating around on the internet, I legit screamed along with the people in the video because it was so exciting to see MR TUXEDO MASK AND PRETTY SENSHIS WITH SUPER AWESOME WATERCOLOR ART AND KAWAII LUNA~! Although they didn't use moonlight densetsu, I'm quite glad that the seiyuus were the same.

WARNING, SPOILERS BELOW:

Anyway, when mamoru-kun first appeared on the streets in the afternoon with his tuxedo, it was ridiculous okay. Like what usagi-chan said, "who wears a tuxedo on a street in the afternoon!"

But it's excusable since it's Tuxedo-kun! He appeared with his - i assume - rayban shades looking so smoking hot outside the Jewelry shop where he bumped into Usagi calling her two buns on her head odango. It was so funny and the best thing is Tuxedo-kun doesn't sweat. It's fricking summer.

Anyway, we also meet Motoki, the boy who Usagi loves working in the Arcade and the art is so much better now with watercolor-ed buildings etc.

TUXEDO-KUN FIRST FULL SUIT DEBUT

WHEN LUNA TELLS SAILOR MOON TO RECITE "MUUUUN PURIIIIIIZEMUUUUU PAWAAAAA MEEEEKAAAAPUUU!"

WHEN TUXEDO-KUN USES HIS ULTRA PRINCELY SMILE TO KILL US ALL YEAH HAVE MY BABIES PLEASE

AND EVIL JADEITE~

Ending interlude. GOSH LOVE THE ART. HAND DRAWN!!

INTERLUDE COLOR PENCIL ART WHICH IS SO PRETTY I'M USING IT AS WALLPAPER

I'm so excited for Crystal episode 2 because it will be on Sailor Mercury. I cant remember the story so I will read the manga once to see how it's like. My friends said it's already different from the 1992 series so yay I'm excited~

To sum up, I didn't know usagi was that whiny and you just have to bear with her whininess for the entire series. But she eventually matures so it isn't that bad. MOON PRINCESS IS SO PRETTY OKAY. GAH. SAILOR MOON BANZAI!

P.S i miss old school mahou shoujo

Manga: Bride of the water god

The bride of the water god
Genre: Historical, shoujo, fantasy
Type: manhwa
Synopsis: Soah is a girl from a small village. The Water God is upset and so a long drought has been devastating the village people. In order to appease the god, they marry Soah off to him by sacrificing her to the Water God in exchange for rain. The Water God rescues her to his Water Kingdom, where her new life begins. For Soah, this is a story of her faith ... her life ... her love... (from mangahere)

I've not been a fan of manhwa's because their shoujo manhwas are always almost the same but there are a few that I am a great fan of : Goong, Model, Bride of the Water God, Noblesse, Captive Hearts (omfg this is BL but the best BL ever!!!!!!!)

I can't remember how I first encountered Bride of the Water God, but all I remember was when I first read the story, there were no english scans online so I must've bought the chinese manga to read. What made me reach for this book is the beauty of how the characters are drawn. Although most manhwa has their characters with large round eyes and narrow body and face, this artist drew all the characters like dolls. If you read one of the 4koma somewhere in between, the mangaka mentioned that she likes to draw her characters beautiful and made sure they have elegance, even if the scenes were killing.

The drawings inside are by far the most beautiful and serene I've ever seen and if you want to take a look at some scenery of the water kingdom, you can go tumblr and search for the tag. The thing about historical manga, it is important for a manga to draw their dressing well and she made hers so simple and elegant, just too beautiful. Oh yes, her drawings resemble clamp. Long bodies, long dresses, long hair. Everything is elongated!

Story wise... it revolves around the human girl Soah and how she's an important character in the celestial world. The gods are at war with mainly two sides, shin nong or the emperor (they are both brothers). I really like how the mangaka incorporates chinese tales into the story (i've listened to it since i was young) so i'm not unfamiliar with the stories. Her style of writing seems to focus more on relationships between people, something really classic and full of grace(?????) i know i dont make much sense loll!

When you read Bride of the Water God, you will not feel much violence, everything is quite pretty and peacemaking... basically your heart won't go crazy and make you turn into some violent reader but at times i did go crazy with the stupidity of the characters. There is not much depth into the storyline so you don't have to think so much and just go with the flow. There are fun moments inside but other than that, i think you can expect cliche lines and scenes.

An advice, just enjoy the 2d bxw scenery!!!!

I will re-read the manhwa again because the scanslators are terrible with their translations (sorry!!) and i got so confused with the names and because different people translate it, the story becomes choppy and sometimes it doesnt make sense. So if you are a fan of the manhwa, please buy the original or translated whatever you see in your country and read it again.

Mikimoto Rin
Synopsis:
From Chibi Manga: In 360 days, there were bright days and disappointment while I was staring at you. Though they were neighbors, Nino and Kira had never talked to each other... But when Nino found out about Kira's secret, her life changes and everyday became more interesting!! Their link will lead them to a love close to the paradise.

English scans: here
Chinese scans: here
As of 24.02.2014, latest chapter is 28
 --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you like sad plots?
Character with has terminal sickness?
Do you like 'Boku no Hatsukoi o kimi ni sasagu'?
Then this manga is for you.

When I first saw the first volume in Chinese sitting on Kinokuniya shelf, I was hesitating whether I should get it (I didnt) because the cover looked like some typical shoujo manga (hah! lesson learnt: do not judge a manga by its cover) and I just ignored it though I kinda like mikimoto-sensei's work.

I was bored and sitting around aimlessly and decided to browse through the shoujo manga list on MH/MF that's when I thought hey, maybe i should give this a try.

This manga is simply amazing, so pure and innocent, straightforward and direct, lots of cute and sad moments. I was hooked after half-way through the first chapter and around chapter 20(?) I started crying because of Kira's simple wishes.

My friend joked when she said, "What if there's a sudden plot twist? What if Kira heard wrongly about him dying?" I wish I want that kind of plot twist too but that will totally kill the atmosphere, right? I'm too far in to the manga and I can say THERE IS SOME HOPE, THERE IS A PLOT TWIST and ugh, I want a pet parakeet like Nino, lol.

I wonder what will happen in Chapter 29 and I'm getting so excited.

I'm going to drop by Kinokuniya later to pick up the 3 volumes.

Some omakes for you:

No matter how right this looks, this is a rare father and son gaymance moment.

LOL this scene, it happened on Nino's and Kira's birthday and Nino explained to him that her father will only remove his specs once a year and whoever looks into his eyes will fall for him and becomes his slave. So Kira was watching and he dropped his mug LOL!!

Kira:"R-REALLLY?"
Nino: "That is why I said!"
Kira: "That is to say..."
Nino's mum: "But I (mummy) also love Daddy with Spectacles~~~~ <3"
Nino's dad: "Really... I'm feeling embarrassed."

Do try it!

Fukumenkei Noise

Title:  Fukumenkei Noise (Read here)
Mangaka: Fukuyama Ryoko
Genre: Rock music, gender bender, high school, shoujo, romance
WHAT TO EXPECT: tsunderes, geniuses, megane, alter-ego, sadist, love-triangle, short boys
Synopsis: Nino is a girl who harbors feelings towards her friend, Momo. Just when she can no longer suppress her feelings, she encounters a boy who composes music. What is the promise Nino made to a boy she met who composes music? (source: mangafox)

I first found out about this anime when Man with a mission adapted the first chapter of this manga and made it into their PV:

I thought the PV was rather impressive so I went to MF to read up on the manga and then I found out the mangaka actually did Nosatsu Junkie, which is one of my favourite manga.

I think the mangaka really favors gender bender type of story because Nosatsu Junkie was also gender bender. Nonetheless, the story was rather interesting and yes I got hooked on to it instantly. This manga especially revolves around alter-egos and rock bands in Japan set in a high school environment. Not only that, it includes geniuses, tsunderes, air-heads, and short boys. If you are crazily in love with these type of characters and plots, then YES, THIS MANGA IS FOR YOU. The manga just started so I'm rather impatient with the monthly updates and since the first volume was released in Japan on 18 Oct 2013, it will take awhile before it gets translated into Chinese. Because I am a poor otaku who can only afford the Taiwan version

Do check it out if you can~
